Hokua

Before the other luxury condos started to pop up in Kakaako and about a decade before the first ultra-luxury condo of Ward Village, Waiea, was completed, there was a true luxury condo in Kakaako, and it is Hokua. Completed in 2006, Hokua was developed by renowned developers MacNaughton and Kobayashi Group, which also developed One Ala Moana and Park Lane. Hokua is 40 stories tall with 248 units. A typical floor has 7 units per floor and PH units are located on floors 36-40 with 5 units on each floor, except floor 40 which has 3 PH units.

Hokua in Hawaiian means “Tip of High Waves”. Hokua is well-known for its excellent resident concierge services and most recently, it has been awarded 2022 Building of the Year award by IREM Hawaii (Institute of Real Estate Management) for its excellence in building management. Hokua was designed by locally-renowned Benjamin Woo Architects and interior design firm Handel Architects.

One highlight to note about Hokua is that it is one of the rare few buildings that is built parallel to the ocean shoreline, therefore all units enjoy a direct-facing ocean view. Because of the V-shaped design, unit D is the preferred unit because it is at the center of the building, which protrudes out towards the ocean, and thus has the best view of all units.
