Located on the South shore of Oahu and adjacent to Diamond Head, Kahala is an affluent neighborhood where the rich and famous reside. Along Kahala Ave is where you’ll find multi-million dollar beachfront mansions and access to several public beaches.
Hawaiians began settling in the area around 1795. Because the area is relatively flat, the early settlers used it to raise livestocks. Therefore the land was occupied by farmers until after the first world war, when the affluent started moving into the neighborhood. Kahala in Hawaiian means Amberjack fish, which can be found in Hawaiian waters.
Kahala is minutes to Waikiki and its surroundings include Waialae beach park, Kahala Mall, five-star hotel Kahala Hotel & Resort, Waialae Country Club (site of Sony Open golf tournament), Diamond Head state monument, and popular farmer’s market at Kapiolani Community College.
